What can I say about me, not much - living&working in Brasov, this is more or less in the center of Romania, nice mountains around, ski slopes & stuff for the winter, hiking routes in the summer. Close to Bran where so-called Dracula castle is I'm riding my MZ ETZ250 in some summer weekends, going to a couple of oldtimer rallyes, not so much as I would but this is life. Being in the center it's good for me, almost every rallye is at a confortable riding distance.
The motorbike is still perfect for me, I'm trying to keep in a good shape as well as I can. I bought it in 2007 with 61000km, I might be the 7th owner(I'm the 4th in the papers) and my ambition is to reach 100k. This is a big challenge, more for me, the bike I'm sure will go.
Differences from the stock:
ALMOT piston 4th bore(last, but I have 2pieces 3rd bore cilinder-piston prepared, one is ALMOT piston again, one is ALMOT K20, Cr-plated ring). I started with 0.05mm piston-bore clearance, "motoman" procedure break-in with 1:40 OMV BIXXOL-M oil for 150km, then turned to 1:40 OMV BIXXOL-S oil. Until now I'm happy with the combination. Why I don't use 1:50 this is another story, I can tell it later, not neccessary to agree with me
ROCKET01 conrod, that packaged by PROXX, because now I found cheap conrods packaged as Rocket as they are coming directly from TzungDar Ind. but there is no stamp on the conrod itself. One guy on our forum has put this one at the same moment, we can compare them. after both fails.
GOTRONIC electronic ignition with sensor(catches original cam, goes directly instead of points), fixed spark timing advance. This works very well, and is especially sturdy.
electronic charging regulator, this is made by me, has some nice features and is especially nice with the battery, my used battery I bought the bike with, stayed with me 5 years, now the new one I expect 7 years. This regulator was tested first on a Dacia car, used battery stayed ok 7 years and was still ok when the old car went to junkyard.
Our experience is that the 14.2Vcc is best, so the charger is adjustable to reach this voltage.
Rear red lamp - not original, I bought it and I kinda like it as it is, there are 4xred lights, upper 2 for brake, (2x21W), lower 2 for position, these are with LED(2x1W). This was especially useful when I had to ride once in dense fog, so I put in one lower position a 21W bulb, and I was visible from behind. Terrifying sensation in the fog.
The brake switch is commanding a relay so the power goes through the relay and the sensible front-brake switch stays alive, now for 3 years already.
Everything else should be stock, if original components would be available, so lots of aftermarket, so hard to chose carefully.
Hungarian exhaust - so-so, original sounds much better&softer but I don't have one, still searching the scrappings. Only bent instrument holders available, and so on. Luckily we still have a large offer to chose from.
Consumption 3.95-4.1l/100km, 30N2-5 carburetor, set exactly as in the book, main jet 135 because I bought it with problems and wired 125 main jet. I say consumption is good for me, but I ride only long trips, no city traffic. Not especially powerful, I 'm also like a bear on top of it (0.1t ) so top speed is 100km/h, I keep it on 90. I rode this year 2 segments of motorway(80km and 40km), I know it's not advisable but I varied the throttle a bit and no problems.
Sparkplugs:
Used in the beginning romanian Sinterom 14NP21(Thermal: 240) but this is a bit too hot in theory, I had never problems with them.
Turned to Beru 14Z-4AU (thermal 250) - worked excellent, but died suddenly after 4000km.
Replaced with Sinterom 14NP24(Thermal 260 by the book) - worked excellent but only 2000km, then it started misfiring. I have an Old New stock of these 14NP24(they are not produced anymore) so I will keep using them and having spares at hand. I have one Beru 14Z-3AU(thermal 275) in stock and I will use this also sometimes. What to say? Beru is generally excellent, but mine is Made in France so not really original german.
NGK here is fake, they look great, are even expensive, and die after 80-150km.

About the pistons, if there is no place for the next bore, you can tune it to 300cm bore - pistons are available here http://allegro.pl/listing...C5%82ok+mz+300.
In the cylinder etz 250 there is no problem with that, (the problem appears only in the cylinder 251), next step - just roll lathe the cylinder head to 77mm in diameter and 1.5 mm deep into.
I have in my etz that piston and I feel it, the flexibility of the engine has improved from low revs.
About the ignition, there is the man in our forum ,who produces cheap, very good complete electronic ignition system to mz, avalible to 6v (old models) or 12v (etz)
Here there are also people who have in their engines membran intake, exhaust chambers; some tune clutch - move it from the crankshaft to the gearbox shaft and a lot of others modifikations.
About the original exhaust, there is a user who bought in the UK a dozen pieces of brand new , but it only cost as much as 3 x Hungarian.

Hello friends
another year passed by
4100km with my MZ, not commuting, not enough time for fun
1st May, trip to the Danube degenerated to biker meeting at the beginning of riding season
Together with serbian friend in Beljanica mountains
Solo trip in the mountains near my hometown:
Some other trip on forest-roads:
And a few other rides and biker meetings.
Hopefully next year will be at at least this good

Then your riding season starts with the big club meeting? This is good to know. (we did the same always on 8th May, before and after sunny, on the meeting always snowing, we get pissed off so we put it in June )
So if you have the date and location please tell me here. We need to know the date until 10-15 of february 2014 as holiday plannings are made in most companies then not much can be changed. For us it's a longer trip so we need to take 3 days of holiday at least. |

In 2014 we had the club meeting in a camping and extra we visited the citadel of Alba-Iulia and some mountain gorge road
Later in august we had a participation to the gulyas-contest in the Rock'n'Road biker rallye in Maramures(N of Romania) We didn't win, although it was excellent and no drop remained.
It was a good year 2014
This year we invite you, if you wish to come, to our meeting, it will be 26,27,28 of June somewhere close to city of Fagaras, close to the entrance on the famous twisty road "Tansfagarasan", we rented an alpine hut with yard for tents, you are welcome.
How the gathering looks like? Private-party in a camping/private place, like a bigger picnic over 2 days, tents, campfire, barbecue, beer, Saturday one visiting ride around in the first half of the day, later back to barbecue, talks and drinking. No drunk-riding between the tents, no burnouts, no making noise at night, high-music and other stuff that can be found at regular meetings. We meet for the people.
If somebody is interested to come, please drop a note here and I will give necessary clarifications.

This year was very good, our members did touring, longer or shorter
One in Greece for summer holiday
First time this year we met actually in Serbia, at the meeting made by MZ Rider Serbia, together with other MZ enthusiasts from Croatia and Slovenia
We had our meeting in Romania
Then participated with 10 MZ-s to annual meeting of socialist bikes and sidecars
Then some local rides in the forests and bushes:
Late september two of us had a ride to Novi Sad, Serbia again, for a birtday party
Now it started to be really cold, no more biking, some clubs held the closing party, but we still hope for 2-3 sunny days so we still ride around for a little, because there is much time until spring.
